Viborg 3DMaya Animation ends

The 15 week Professional Course (3D Maya Character animation) in Viborg finished on friday. I am still working on offsetting poses, structuring the timing and facial work. A first show, for those who asked:)

The fly is the logo of Norway's annual documentary film festival in Volda.

I did some design adaptation and rough animation for the team working on the opening credits for this year on a james bond inspired theme.

It is bright time for an update! 5 month contract as rigger for Atmo's Metropia in Sweden, finished winter 08, SHRUG graduation film completed in February and as of now part of the ANNECY Official Selection 2009-
so, in the following months I am looking for a job! 2D, stop-mo or After Effects animator, Background or Graphic artist as central point...
keywords- motivated, adaptable, and available :) Until I edit my showreel together, the following elements are what should be found on it.

This illustration was done in the context of an exercise on expressing monsters and fear through one of the six senses, using traditional media. It is acrylic on wood and about 1m20 by 60cm.

My first internship was at CINEMATION/Manuel Otero, a small studio in Paris working in cartoon style 2d Animation;
I spent the 6 weeks there developing concept art for the directors sequel to a previous short film on bull fighting. This involved storyboarding, some background layout, character design (the bull) and some character adaptation..

SHRUG- GRADUATION FILM 2008

I am presently in post-production on this project, my graduation 2d animation tale in six minutes on the characters called the Shrugs.

The Shrugs are strange shouldered beings living on an island around which the water rises continually. This is a their story, of how they have adapted to a constantly changing environment..
It is a tale about the lightness of being, the numerous states in one and the possibility of one's own harmonmy inside great changes..

I developed the original concept in my second year of animation in France, but only started actual production of the drawn animation in january of last year in Volda animation departement.
The animation was finished in april of this year with commisioned assistance of a hungarian animator for 40 seconds.
Everything else on the film is my own work, pre-production, animation, and post production. I have been working with a norwegian folk musician on the soundtrack.
The animation is all handrawn 2d, the backgrounds are traditional acrylic, before being scanned and finished digitally. The animation is then cleaned and colored using Photoshop Cs3 and composited in AfterEffects7.
I will be applying it to festivals once done, so i may have to limit the amount of excerpts.

(I will however on this project as well, upload some actual animation to this site in the coming days. Thank you for your patience)

Puppet animation-Sorcerella lip sync

In the autumn of 2007 I also took a 6-week course in traditional puppet animation, where I did all steps from design through construction to animation, on a little witch character. The animation included various character tests and lip-sync.
(The choice of audio is a Victorian character saying; "I'm tired of being a symbol, chancellor")

(This was a very crucial and rewarding experience for me as work under the camera gave me a very tangible feeling of the basic concepts of animation, shape consistency and timing, that i had not quite as concretely grasped before, in 2d traditional.)

Last year I took six weeks of Maya 3d, barely enough to say i have a grasp, but a good start to go through the basic notions of modeling, lighting and animation in the program, that i have somewhere to build on in an uncertain future.

These are some of the images for the storyboard of the previous project.
I storyboarded the 1 minute sequence,
the characters were to move along the barren landscape from a tornado to strange windmills in hill formations. Through the landscape they moved, swept by the wind, catching and carrying spheres from one place to another.
It was a rather cryptic project..

Internship at Elefante Blanco 2007

These are two backgrounds and character design from a mixed media animation project I developped last summer in a team of five other animation students from different French animation schools (digital 2d, 3d and illustration)

This project was done during 2 months in association with a spanish street theater company Elefante Blanco, that was developing video projection to accompany a coming show.
The sequence i worked on represented linear beings moving in a bare wind blown environment.
I animated 30 seconds of traditional animation, worked on concepts for the project, storyboarding and layout as well as coordinating 2d animation with another member on another sequence.
